Thanksgiving in CA

We spent Thanksgiving week in California this year at Patrick's sisters home (Thanks Erin & Zac). We had a great time! It was beautiful weather (or at least better than cold and snowy salt lake). We enjoyed spending time with family and our kids loved playing with their cousins. We spent a day in Montery CA. It was beautiful and we loved being so close to the ocean.

We took the "17 mile drive" and here is Brynlee, Kaylee & Sean climbing the rocks, looking for seashells, and seeing how close they could get to the chipmunks

My sweet (and a little nerdy) husband was excited to stop and see the Apple and Google Headquarters, but we got to take the drive without kids and went to see a movie in San Jose so it was fun.

I don't know how time goes by so fast...6 years ago we had just moved into our new house and we went into the doctors for my weekly check up (this was about one week before my due date) and I was hoping to hear of some progress. My doctor did an ultra sound and said she was about 8 1/2 pounds and looked good. I was hoping to try a vbac delivery after having Brynlee c-section, but when the doctor said I wasn't progressing and he would take her by c-section that afternoon I jumped at the chance to have her out. On August 19th at 5:45pm we had a beautiful, healthy, chubby baby girl. Kaylee was 9 lb 14 oz (good thing we didn't wait another week) and 22 inches long. We have loved watching her grow into a fun, smart, strong willed, loving girl!

We had a wonderful dinner at Papa's the Sunday before her birthday.

On Kaylee's birthday she choose 2 of her best friends; Ellie A. and Ellie C to come over for cupcakes and we went to Jumping Jacks.

The day after Kaylee's birthday we got to go up to Park City and have ANOTHER celebration with Grandma and Grandpa McPheeters and her aunts and uncles.

First Day of School

Brynlee and Kaylee started school at the end of July (I know so early). Brynlee is in 3rd grade and is excited to be in class with one of her best friends.

Kaylee's first day in 1st grade. It took a while for both me and her to get use to being gone all day, but she loves it. She is in a class with 5 other girls in our neighborhood, so it is fun to have them all together.

I hope it is a great year for both of them!

With the girls only off school for 3 weeks in July our summer went by WAY to fast. Here is a quick snap shot of some of the things we did this summer...

Dress Up- Boy style

So my girls loved to dress up in princess dresses and make up, but I never knew boys like to dress up as well-at least it is in cool super hero gear and not fancy dresses. Sean can change into different characters 3 or 4 times a day. My favorite is when he creativley comes up with his own costume.

Utah Valley Half Marathon

On June 12th, the day before I turned 32, I ran my 3rd Half Marathon. It started up in Provo Canyon and the first half was mostly down hill and the 2nd half was up University Ave ending at the Provo Mall. I ran the first half well (of course the down hill and rain helped) and faster than I normally do, which is probably why I thought I was not going to be able to run the last 3 miles but somehow I did and finished in my fasted time 2 hours and 10 minutes (ave 9.58 min mile). My brother Alan ran the FULL Marathon. I am so proud of him and his hard work. It was amazing to watch all of the marathons come in knowing how hard it was for me to just do half that (although I think 13.2 miles is still pretty good).

Memorial Weekend

Wahoo!! I survived another fun, busy year of teaching preschool. It really went by so fast. This last year I taught 2 classes of 4 & 5 year olds and had a total of 21 students. We had a great graduation/year end program at the Library. (since I don't have parents permission I'm not going to post pictures, but the kids were sure cute)! I am planning on teaching 3 classes next year, 2 - 4 year old classes and 1 -3 year old class. It really has been an awesome job and a great blessing!

Now on to our weekend, which we were all looking forward to. We went to St. George with my

parents and stayed at my Aunt Glenda & Uncle Don's house. My girls went down on Thursday evening with my parents and we came down with Sean (there was no fighting in the car!) on Friday. We swam every day! It was in the 80's or even touched 90 degrees most days and with the cool weather we have had this spring it was a nice change. Friday night we went and saw the new Shrek movie with the kids. Saturday, I got up and went jogging. Us girls went shopping while the boys went and played at the arcade. We went swimming again and that night went to a fun park close by.

It was right after this picture that we were heading back to the car and I realized I didn't have the van key in my pocket. "Why Me?" We only have one lone key (it is not on a key chain because the attachment broke) for the van. I had put it in my pocket with my cell phone because I didn't want to carry around my purse. Well we of course started looking everywhere we had been and peeking in the windows in the van and could not find it. So we ended up calling a lock smith and he came and and opened the van, but the key was not in there (which is what I figured but I was praying it was). So that meant I must have dropped it somewhere in the park probably one of the times I took out my phone to take a picture. It was getting dark and this park was big and covered in wood chips. We ended up paying the guy to make us a new key. Heavenly Father answered our prayers- the next day when we went back to the park to look one more time & Sean found our key (Way to go Sean!!) up on a ledge. Someone must have found it and put it there. It was an awful night, but it all worked out and now we have 2 keys. Thanks to my parents for helping!

We are due for a new family picture! Patrick said we should just try it on our own with our tripod, so we finally had a decent spring day so we decided to give it a try one Sunday after church. We went to Daybreak where they have some fun bridges and a lake. All was going well, the kids were enjoying being outside and walking around. However, that all changed after one picture where Kaylee said the sun was in her eyes. I tried the "close your eyes and open them on the count of 3", no success and before I knew it she was in total melt down. So we gave her

a moment or two to settle down and decided to go find a new spot for a family picture. Well there was no settling her down and I felt the eyes of everyone around us. After at least 10 minutes of still crying Patrick and I were both MAD. I tried taking her away from Patrick and the kids and I kept asking her WHY are you crying? And please STOP(this was not just a little crying-the whole park could hear her)! She gave her typical answer of "I can't". Now being a girl myself I can understand the times of needing to cry and sometimes not know why. But, it is frustrating because Kaylee has been doing this a lot lately. So after what seemed like forever, it was probably 15 minutes we decided to quit and give up on a family picture and we all went home mad and crying (she never did stop until we were home). Well here is what pictures we did get:

How is it possible that it has been 4 year since we had our baby boy? He has been such a joy and blessing in our family. It is fun to have a little boy, although I am not sure about all this play fighting and superhero characters. Sean loves transformers, superhero's, playing pretend, wrestling with dad and playing with his big sisters. He keeps us all laughing with the funny things he says. He makes my heart melt when he tells me "Mom your the best Mom". Happy 4th Birthday Sean! We Love you!

Off-Track Time

My girls were off track from school for 3 weeks in February. Off track is always good and bad. Bad days when there is endless messes and fighting and the chaos of 3 children home ALL day. However, there are good moments of having the kids off track as well, lazy mornings, helpers at preschool (this can also be a good or bad thing), no homework, more time to hang out together. We tried to get out of the house and do a few "fun" things together.

I decided to take the kids to the Circus (just the cheep version that came to town, not the big Ringling Brothers, however they still tried to nickle and dime you for everything). The kids enjoyed it for the most part and can now say they have been to the circus.

Christmas 2009

Okay I know it is almost the end of January, but better late than never. We had a wonderful Christmas. We got to stay home all day on Christmas and enjoy it will our children and family and it was wonderful. It was fun to watch the kids excitement and faces light up. I think the best part of Christmas for me this year was seeing all of our family! I love you all!We got a new "pre-lit" tree this year. I love it and can't wait to put it back up next year!

Brynlee is 8!!

On November 6th Brynlee celebrated her 8th Birthday. I can't believe my little girl is 8! How did that happen? Brynlee had a birthday party with friends at our home. They made stick horses out of old levis. It was fun but a bit of work (for Mom)! We are so greatful to have Brynlee in our family. She is a great help with her brother and sister. She loves to goof off with friends, dance, sing and draw. We hope she has a wonderful 8th year!

On Saturday, November 28th Brynlee was baptized by her dad! It was a wonderful day and it was nice to share it with family and friends. She didn't even seem nervous. Brynlee was able to get baptized with one of her best friends, Julia Anderson. Brynlee's Grandma Willis gave a talk on Baptism and Brynlee played a duet on the piano with her piano teacher. Her Grandpa McPheeters, Uncle Zac, Von Anderson, Bishop Hansen & Colby Hill stood in the circle as her dad confirmed her. We are so proud of Brynlee and her decision to get baptized and her example to our family.

Brynlee's Baptism dressed was made by our good friend Kelly. Brynlee helped pick out the material and pattern. She looks beautiful!

10th Anniversary Trip

Patrick and I celebrated our 10th Anniversary on August 7th. It is hard to believe it has been 10 years and 3 children later. Patrick is an amazing, fun loving, hard working, sweet husband and father who is my best friend and I am so grateful to be married to and hope to celebrate many, many more anniversaries with! About a month ago Patrick surprised me by telling me to put on the calendar that we were going away for 6 days for our anniversary and he had planned everything and arranged for our parents to watch the kids. That is all he told me, he would not tell me where we were going no matter how many questions and times I asked. I was really excited!! After we droped off the kids that morning we left he handed me an envelope that had a thought out "misson impossible" letter ("Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to go on a 6 day road trip with your handsome, loving... husband for 6 days...") and it told me where we were going with pictures and what we would be doing for our trip. Patrick had food and water in the car and everything planned out. It was very impressive!! So our trip went like this:

Day 1: Drive to Las Vegas, stayed at the Excalibur hotel. Patrick had bought tickets for us to go to the Terry Fator show. For those of you who don't know him (I didn't), he won the America's got talent show last year with his ventriloquist act. He was AMAZING and so much fun!! We also rode the New York, New York rollercoaster and walked the stip.

Day 2 & 3: We drove to Chandler, AZ and stayed in a hotel for 2 nights. Patrick's grandparents, who we haven't see for about 6 years, live there and we had a wonderful time visting with them! We also went to the Mesa Temple, and to the movies and dinner and had a relaxing time. It was only about 102 degrees when we where there, not too bad for AZ in August.

Day 4: We had a yummy pancake breakfast with Grandmother & Grandad (thanks Grandad!) and then we drove to Flagstaff AZ, where we stayed the night and went to a movie.

Day 5: We drove for an hour and 1/2 to the beautiful Grand Canyon. We spent the whole day seeing the southern rim. It was a beautful day and it was nice to be together hiking and enjoying the scenery without worring about kids falling off the cliff or listening to whinning of tired feet (we will have to go back as a family when the kids are bigger). We were able to sit on the edge of the Grand Canyon and watch the sunset, pictures don't do it justice. We then camped the night in a tent, attempted to make smoores and looked at the trillion stars that we can't see at home.

Day 6: Stopped at a few more lookout points at the Grand Canyon and drove the 9 hour drive back home.

We missed the kids and it was good to see them, but it was a little hard to give up our quiet, peaceful trip. Thanks Honey for the wonderful trip and for all you did to plan it! I love you!

Good Dreams!

I woke up this morning with Sean next to my bed asking "Where is my Lightning McQueen?" I asked "What Lightning McQueen"? He said with a big smile "The big one we got at the store" and I said "Oh Sean, you must have been dreaming did you have a good dream"? And he went bolistic screaming and hitting me and saying NO. I of course told him to go to his room. However as he left I couldn't help smiling and feeling for the kid. Sometimes it is hard to wake up from a dream and realize it was just a dream!

I asked all the kids when they woke up if they had a good dream. Here is what my kids dreamed about last night...

Sean: Buying a big Lightning McQueen at the store!

Kaylee: Was going for a walk with her Grandma and Mable (my mom's dog). She said "they were having a good time".

Brynlee: Was an explorer in a jungle and saw a lion, tiger, elephant, parrots and she also dreamed she went to Antartica and saw penquins and polar bears and when she got back home a man paid her for the pictures she took and she got to buy a necklace with white beads and a flower and a bracelet.

Night time is one of my favorite times when ALL of my children are sleeping and having good dreams (doesn't happen very often at our house).

Pioneer Day!

We had a great 24th of July! I love that Patrick works for the State and got it off work (sometimes I take that for granted and assume everyone gets the holidays off). We spent the day out doors at Oquirrh Lake in Daybreak. They have so much to do there. We swam in the lake, played in the sun and went Kayaking with my family. It was a beautiful, hot day and it was fun to spend it together. If you haven't been to daybreak and walked around the lake or played at their fun parks you should! What a wonderful state we live in.

Okay so one of my goals this summer was to update and keep the blog updated (well at least we will try for monthly). So it is now almost mid July and I figured I better get cracking. I swear it must take me 3 times as long as others to post things, I still have a lot to learn about blogging (It just took my an hour to fiqure out how to change the background). Anyways for any of you out there who look at our blog (most of you have probably given up). I am going to try better. I just posted somethings from back in April and May!

Dance Recital

We had many recitals and end of year programs in May that Brynlee and Kaylee were involved in. We are so proud of them and their accomplishments. Kaylee finished preschool-with mom-and even participated in both morning and afternoon preschool graduations. She has been quite the trooper coming to all 3 of my preschool classes this past year. She is excited to start Kindergarten!

Brynlee started piano last fall and she has picked up on it quite quickly and loves to play. She did a great job at her first piano recital. She didn't even seem nervous. I hope she keeps up her love for the piano. Brynlee also recieved an award at school called the "Soaring Eagle Award". She had to pass of 15 (out of 20) requirements including things like; writing her own poem, giving an animal report, playing the piano for her class, a science experiment, 6 hours of service (she helped mom with preschool), passing off addition facts etc;. She loves the trophy she got and although we had to sit on the gym floor for the awards ceremony it was fun to see her get up on stage to recieve it. Way to go Bryn!

Disneyland-April

In April we went with my parents and Patrick's sister's family to Disneyland. We first stayed Easter weekend at my Aunt's house in St. George and had a fun time having an Easter egg hunt with cousins and playing at the beautiful Snow Canyon.

We then spent a night in Las Vegas. We visted the Las Vegas Temple, went to the M&M store, watched the water show at the Bellagio and walked around a bit. One night in Vegas with the kids was enough, but it was fun.

We spent 3 days at Disneyland. Even though are kids would not ride any "big kids" rides we had pleanty do to and see and had a great time. It was nice to have my parents there to help! They all loved seeing the characters. Sean's favorites were Buzz and Woody and the girls enjoyed seeing all the princesses. It took a lot of planning and may not have gone perfectly (I invisioned at the happiest place in the world there would be no fighting or whinning-nope it still happens at Disney) but the kids still talk about it months later and we can't wait to go backBefore coming back home we spent the last day at Newport Beach. It was beautiful and we all had a great relaxing time. I wish we lived closer to the beach! You can see many more pictures from our trip at the Me Gallery on the right side of our blog.

Merry Christmas!!

It is hard to believe Christmas is here. What a wonderful time of year. We are so blessed to have a healthy, happy family to share this time with and celebrate our Savior. Since I didn't give "Funk family update" letter with my Christmas cards (I was lucky to evan get the cards out) I thought I would give a brief update here:

Brynlee is 7 years old and in first grade. She has made great improvement on her reading these past few months and we are very proud of her. She is still taking dance and started up piano lessons in September, which she is doing very well in (however, I will be greatful when we don't have to hear "Up on the House Top" played 20 times a day and we move on to a new favorite song). She loves to play with friends, draw and play school. Brynlee is a great big sister and helper to Mom and Dad.

Kaylee is 4 years old. She attends "mom's" preschool -all 3 classes (she has no excusses not to be ready for Kindergarten) and does very well. She also enjoys her dance class. She loves to play with friends and her brother & sister, she love to do puzzles and play computer. Kaylee adores our new cat Krystal and it doesn't bother her that I find a new scratch mark on her daily (the cat does put up with a lot).

Sean is 2 (will be 3 in February) and is growing so fast. It is fun to have a boy! He loves animals and he loves pretending to be them. He is still very much a mommy boy, which has it good and bad points. He attends the 3 year old preschool class and enjoys playing with the other boys.

Patrick and Amy are doing well and stay busy keeping up with these 3. Patrick just started a new position (still with the State of Utah) up at the Capital and is enjoying it. Patrick also enjoyed having season tickets to BYU football and he is the Sunday School President in our ward. Amy is teaching 3 preschool classes (total of 25 students and 2 kids) in our home and really enjoys it and hope to continue it. She also has continued to be the Administrative Assistant for a non profit state early childhood organization and is Secretary in the Primary.

Our beautiful Kaylee is 4 today!! I know everyone says the years go by so fast but it is so true. In fact we moved into our home 2 weeks before I had Kaylee and I can't believe it has been 4 years already. Kaylee was a big 9lb 14oz at birth and was known for her cute chubby cheeks. She is such a blessing to our family. She loves to sing, dance, read stories, play "my little ponies", and play (torcher at times)with our new kitten, Crystal. I love to be with Kaylee first thing in the morning when she wakes up and always has a smile on her face and a hug for Mom. We love you Kaylee! Happy Birthday!

$2 Tuesdays at Thanksgiving Point

The kids and I went to Thanksgiving Point on Tuesday evening with my parents and had a great time. In August you can get into the farm, gardens and the dinosaur museum for $2 each which is a great deal! We went to the farm, which the kids loved. Sean loves animals especially horses, but don't try to put him on one. We also went to the gardens at the perfect time of night. We may be going back before the month is over. Thanks Mom and Dad for going with us!

Anniversary Weekend

This weekend was our 9th anniversary. We putted around Utah county for a couple of nights. On Sunday, we went up to Sundance and took a tram ride. These are some pictures we took.

Brynlee's 1st Day of School

Brynlee started 1st grade on Monday and is in Mrs. Barnes class with many of her friends. The first day of school she let Mom take her and watch her line up with her new class. It is hard to believe we have a 1st grader who is now gone to school all day long. Her faviorite part of school is that now she gets to eat lunch there and has 3 recesses. I hope she has a great year! Here are a couple of pictures of Brynlee on her first day of 1st grade.
